Just discovered the TCSI this summer. What don’t I love about it! ChangeCamp is just another amazing example of the forward, new-era thinking society needs (BADLY).

I particularly love the fundamental question for 2010. I’m currently involved with a grassroots movement regarding thoughtless development on Burlington’s waterfront. The crux of the issue is a flawed process when it comes to community consultation. Over 2000 citizens are backing the cause and we’re doing our damndest to change the current approach by City Council Slowly but surely, we’re making inroads. A ChangeCamp would be an excellent step towards progress, as it relates to citizen engagement and (hopefully!)a new level of respect by Council for the ideas and vision of its local citizens.

Thank you Sarah for your comment! Are you thinking about organizing a ChangeCamp in Burlington? If so, send us an email and I’m sure we can help.

Love it. Looking at ways to weave into election is great direction, especially as it could set up real open gov’t experiments w/ whoever wins. Alot of new players running this year. Change is in the wind.

You should invite Joseph Potvin to speak on the open source projects being run out of Ottawa to help governments open up and use open source rather than buying proprietary software… I can connect you if you’d like — give me a ping.. Awesome direction for ChangeCamp..

    Thanks Mark and Alex.
No doubt open government as a number of related topics will be talked about at some of these hyperlocal ChangeCamp and online. More importantly, in my mind, these events and online spaces should provide and demonstrate an EXPERIENCE of what open government and grassroots community engagement FEELS like to the non-techwonk regular citizen.
Those with a technology interest will no doubt want to talk about open data and open source, but sometimes people just want to talk about making their neighbourhoods safer, happier and more vibrant places.
I envision this project to be as much about the culture of our citizenship as it is about the technologies of our governance. I’m really excited to begin.

I’m very excited about this project. So many new tools have emerged in the last four years that can help make this the most engaged and ideas-driven election Toronto has ever had.

Am really keen to see the ChangeCamp model grow. It will be great to see what kind of new energy we can generate with the project you’re suggesting, Mark. One thing to keep in mind: it will be important to manage our expectations. We’ll need to be clear about what counts as success. Really looking forward to discussing, strategizing and scheming our way forward…
